RFOM coming for first official visit to Ukraine
KYIV, 6-8 April 2004 - The newly appointed OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFOM), Miklos Haraszti, came for an official visit to Ukraine on April 6 together with Alex Ivanko, the Senior Adviser and Spokesman. This visit was carried out in compliance with the mandate of the RFOM, which is to observe relevant media developments in OSCE participating States and, in close co-ordination with the Chairman-in-Office, to advocate and promote full compliance with OSCE principles and commitments with respect to freedom of expression and free media. During their visit they met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information, the heads of both the National Committee and National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, as well as a group of media activists.
