ODIHR working visit to Ukraine

5-8 April - The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) sent an election expert team for a working visit to Kyiv between April 5 and April 8. The ODIHR election team was led by the Head of the Election Section, Gerald Mitchell (UK), and also included Senior Election Adviser, Nikolai Vulchanov (Bulgaria); Election Adviser, Vadim Zhdanovich (Russian Federation); and Election Adviser, Holly Ruthrauff (US).

This visit was necessary in order to prepare for the Needs Assessment Mission that is expected to take place later this spring in anticipation of an invitation from Ukrainian authorities for a long-term observation team. The agenda for the working visit will likely include meetings with Verkhovna Rada faction leaders, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, appropriate VR committees on legislative reform, the Central Election Commission, the Ministry of Interior, and relevant NGOs.
