Coordination of a Newspaper Insert Working Group:
An election insert project on voter education is being implemented by Ukrainian experts. The insert will focus on issues regarding the institution of the President, voting procedures and the rights of voters. Newspapers on a nationwide basis have committed to the initiative of distributing the insert. As of today, these commitments amount to a circulation of 1,470,000 copies.
TV-debates among the presidential candidates:
The Freedom of Choice Coalition of NGOs and Internews Ukraine are planning for live TV-debates to take place among the presidential candidates. This will attempt to ensure equal opportunities for all media outlets to broadcast the event, consequently reaching a nationwide audience.
Managerial trainings for media outlets:
Working group meetings among but not limited to representatives from IREX, IRF, Internews and the Academy of Ukrainian Press have discussed the drafting of legal manuals for media outlets. An updated manual with media related legislation is also expected to be published sometime in July.
Training for journalists:
A relevant working group, including various Ukrainian and International media organizations, are reviewing planned training sessions for journalists. The group is in the process of analyzing gaps and exploring methods of covering them accordingly.
Liaison with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media:
Continued contact with the OSCE RfoM in Vienna helps to ensure that reports emanating from this office are based upon balanced, unbiased, and substantiated information.
